April "Location" Soap Challenge by Amy Warden of Great Cakes Soapworks
This is my first time participating in a soap challenge. I was intrigued with the theme. We recently moved back to the Northwest (North Idaho) from spending a few years down in Arizona. We now live in the Silver Valley, between Coeur d'Alene & the Montana border.
I wanted to incorporate as much as I could that represents our beautiful state of Idaho & the Northwest. Ingredients included are Colloidal Silver - Right here in the Silver Valley, there's been more than a billion ounces mined. Colloidal Silver is Antibacterial. What better way to have it than in soap! Huckleberries - Tourists & the locals alike really treasure these little gems. Huckleberries are high in Antioxidants. Potatoes - Everyone knows that Idaho is famous for it's potatoes so I added potato starch for some silkiness. I scented it with Idaho Grown Peppermint Essential Oil, Cedarwood & a hint of Huckleberry Fragrance. Reminds me of what it smells like when you're up in the mountains picking Huckleberries. Fresh, woodsy & a little fruity!
My inspiration for the design came from the picture I took (above) while Huckleberry picking last Summer. I rolled out logs of purple soap to lay in the mold & also rolled lots of tiny little balls to look like Huckleberries to plop on top. I used somewhat of a drop swirl method with the greens & sprinkled the top with silver glitter.
